Mayor vows to follow in predecessor's footsteps (Video)
KANDAHAR, Oct 24, 2011: The newly-appointed mayor of southern Kandahar province on Monday vowed to follow in his predecessor's footsteps in completing ongoing development projects.
Qazi Mohammad Omar was introduced at a special ceremony in Kandahar City, where the former mayor, Ghulam Haider Hamidi, was killed in a suicide attack in July, when an assailant entered the municipality compound with explosives concealed in his turban.
Omar said he would follow Hamidi's policies. Keeping the environment, streets and marketplaces clean and protecting parks would be his priority, he added.
