Possible suicide attacks foiled in Kabul, Ghazni

KABUL (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber detonated his explosives last night when policemen raided a house in the Bagrami district of Kabul, a security official said on Wednesday.   

Hashmatullah Stanikzai, the Kabul police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News a number of militants had gathered at the house to plot suicide attacks in the capital.  

In coordination with the National Directorate of Security (NDS), police stormed the house, where suicide attacker was wounded when he detonated his explosives.

During the raid, Stanikzai added, police seized several suicide vests and arrested 17 suspects. He said the police action had thwarted a possible terror attack in the city.    

Meanwhile, the NDS claimed foiling a suicide attack plan in southern Ghazni province. A four-member group that plotted an attack on the Public Order police was busted, the spy service said.   

In a press release, the intelligence agency said the detainees had been trained abroad and were referred to Mullah commander in Ghazni.

During a joint NDS-police raid on the terrorist sanctuary, one suspect was killed and three other were arrested. Three AK47, three pistols, 25 grenades and other ammunition were seized.
