KABUL to improve their economy in northeastern provinces of the country, officials said on Sunday.
The National Horticulture and Livestock Project (NHLP) officials said that the project would help women grow plants in the winter season. Launched a month ago, the scheme was completed today.
Feroza a worker on NHLP project in the northeastern zone told Pajhwok Afghan News another 82 greenhouses were built in Kunduz, 126 in Baghlan, 50 in Takhar and 20 in Badakhshan.
Each greenhouse is 12 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, having plastic and 16 varieties of seeds, she said, adding the women had received training on building more greenhouses.
NHLP’s gender worker Fareshta Joyenda hailed the project as effective for the women living in remote areas. She stressed the need for extending the greenhouse projects to remote areas.
Project beneficiaries thanked the NHLP and said they had been enabled to improve their living standards on their own.
Sumira and Qudsia, who benefited from the project in the Aliabad district of Kunduz, said they could feed their families and meet school expenses of their children.
Last year, the NHLP constructed 92 greenhouses for needy women in the region. Officials said the cost of each greenhouse was 7,000 afghanis paid by the Afghanistan Trust Fund (ARTF).
