KABUL’s Andokhy area and then to northern Balkh and Kunduz provinces.

At the head of a high-level delegation, President Ghani is in Turkmenistan on a two-day official visit.  Ghani met on Thursday with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and some other Turkmen officials in the nation’s capital, Ashgabat.

A statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said the president met with Afghan students pursuing higher education in the neighbouring country’s Mary province on the second day of his visit.

Happy to meet the students, Ghani called them future leaders and officials of their country and said Afghanistan’s natural resources would be exploited by the future-builders.

“I want capacity of our youth to be strengthened in line with regional and international requirements. We want to witness great changes for our youth in the coming five years. We are trying to pave and wider the ground for education scholarships for Afghan students in foreign countries.”

Calling electrical and railway engineering crucial for Afghanistan, the president said his government was committed to creating jobs for trained and skilled Afghan youths.

Referring to his meeting with Berdymukhamedov, Ghani said they once again agreed to keep going work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and to revive the great Silk Road from Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Europe.

Dubbing his visit as successful, Ghani said Turkmenistan, which had previously agreed to complete the railroad until Aqina dry port, now ready to extend it till Andokhy and then to Balkh and Kunduz provinces. The railways line would be eventually extended to Tajikistan and China, he said.
