KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) officials have asked President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to prevent interference in cricket affairs.
The Afghan squad met the president on Friday ahead of their visit to Australia to make its debut in the ICC World Cup commencing from Feb. 14.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News they complained to President Ghani about senior government officials interfering in their affairs.
In return the president assured them of meeting their demand. Raees Ahmadzai confirmed to Pajhwok that politicians, government officials and lawmakers were pressuring them to choose players of their choice.
Such interference would have adverse effects on the team’s overall performance, he argued. “Some even tell us they have close relations with the president and that is how they try to pressure us.”
