FARAH CITY (Pajhwok):  At least two Afghan nationals have been killed and seven others wounded in gun fire by the Iranian border police after a group of 21 men were trying to cross into Iran, officials in western Farah province said on Thursday.

Nisar Ahmad, police chief for Joyen district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 21 Afghan nationals, the residents of Farah and Nimroz provinces, were trying to illegally cross into Iranian territory for employment.

He added the group crossed the Melk locality in Joyen and were fired upon inside the Iranian territory.

Two of the injured have been shifted to Nimroz and five other were held by the Iranian border police, Ahmad said. He said that whereabouts of the remaining 12 persons could not be immediately ascertained.

The Iranian embassy in Kabul said they were unaware of the incident.
