KABUL (Pajhwok): Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka skipper, said his team would not take Afghanistan lightly ahead of their 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup clash in Dunedin to be held on Sunday.
Both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka lost their opening games to Bangladesh and New Zealand respectively.
Mathews told journalists that the contest against Afghanistan would be tough. “We have worked hard in the past few days to prepare ourselves for this game. We need to take it seriously.”
He noted that consistency in the fielding department was lacking and in the face-off against New Zealand in Christchurch, Sri Lanka dropped Kane Williamson twice and Corey Anderson once and both batsmen went on to make crucial fifties.
He said: “We haven’t been consistent but we worked extremely hard so hopefully we can carry it through to the next game.”
