KABUL’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and both the leaders discussed latest development, bilateral ties and regional situation.

A statement from the prime minister’s house said that both the leaders held detailed talks in which they stressed to further intensify bilateral contacts.

It has been the first contact after yet another significant visit to Kabul and meeting with Ghani by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Raheel Sharif. The Afghan president also had discussion with the prime minister on the outcome of the visit of Pakistani army chief.  

Also, it is reported that Ghani again extended invitation to the prime minister to visit Kabul and the latter accepted but date of his visit has yet to be confirmed.

In addition, both the leaders discussed Afghan Transit Trade with the prime minister noted that bilateral relations between Kabul and Islamabad had been strengthening by each passing day.

Ghani, during the course of his conversation, had expressed satisfaction that relations between the two countries were moving toward positive direction..

Sources said that they reiterated their resolve to fight terrorism, which was a common enemy of both the countries. Ghani also thanked the prime minister and the conversation lasted for about twenty minutes.

It merits mention that Ghani would proceed to the US to hold meetings with senior officials and President Barrack Obama. During his scheduled visit to the US, his discussion with the prime minister is viewed of immense importance.

Earlier, the US has hinted that its troops could stay longer than what earlier indicated and US Defence Secretary in his last week visit to Afghanistan publicly maintained that the decision would be taken during the visit of Ghani to Washington.
