KABUL (Pajhwok): One killed and seven others including four foreigners were wounded when a suicide bomber on Monday rammed his explosive-laden car into European Union Police (EUPOL) vehicle on Monday in the Yakatut neighborhood in the 9th police district of capital Kabul, police said.
However, the EUPOL personnel escaped unhurt in the attack. A statement from the EUPOL confirmed the suicide attack and said: “…. a EUPOL vehicle was involved in a vehicle borne suicide attack whilst it was travelling east on the Jalalabad Road in Kabul. The vehicle’s occupants were uninjured.”
Police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanekzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion targeted a foreign convoy at around 1:30 pm. He confirmed six people had been injured in the attack but he had no details of any casualties suffered by the foreigners.
The EUPOL statement also said several civilians were injured at the scene. The Acting Head of Mission Pia Stjernvall was dealing with the incident and an investigation would now follow in close liaison with the Afghan National Police, it concluded.
