KANDAHAR CITY/HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Eleven policemen have been gunned down in two separate Taliban attacks in southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces, officials said on Monday.
Samim Khplawak, spokesman for the Kandahar governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News an armed clash erupted among policemen in Maiwand district late Sunday night. He did not say how many policemen were killed.
A delegation has been sent in to the area to ascertain facts. A resident, who preferred to go unnamed, said two policemen in connivance with militants opened fire on their colleagues in Koka Dasht area.
He confirmed seven personnel were killed. The resident said the pair fled the area with police weapons.
Separately, four policemen were killed when Taliban stormed a security check-post in Herat province. Kamal Alizai, the provincial council head, said the tragic incident took place in Chasht Sharif district.
