GARDIZ (Pajhwok): At least 11 tonnes of drugs were seized and six traffickers detained in the Ahmadabad district of southeastern Paktia province, officials said on Tuesday.
Provincial police chief, Col. Zalmai Oryakhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drugs were recovered during an intelligence-based operation in the district.
“The drugs include 1,850 kilograms of opium and the rest is hashish,” he said, without giving an exact date of the raid. The drugs and detainees were shown to the media on Tuesday.
Counternarcotics Director Col. Askar Khan said they had recently stepped up efforts against drug traffics in Paktia. Nearly 100,000 kilograms of drugs have been seized and more than 80 traffickers detained in the past two years.
Three months back, police had seized 700 kilograms of drugs and arrested four traffickers in an operation in Paktia.
