13 militants killed in Herat commando action
HERAT CITY/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): More than a dozen insurgents have been killed during an operation by Afghan National Army’s Commando Unit in the Shindand district of western Herat province, an official said on Tuesday.
Nasrullah Nasiri, the commando unit spokesman in the western zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight s operation targeted Zabarkoh, Awkah and Awawkul areas of the district.
He said 13 Taliban militants were killed in the action while the commandos and civilians stayed unhurt. Another six militants were injured and two more captured alive, he added.
A local resident, Sirajuddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News there had been gunfire last night and they came to know in the morning that some militants had been killed.
The operation comes days after dozens of insurgents stormed the district headquarters. Twenty attackers were killed and two security officials were injured in the ensuing clash.
In southern Helmand province, police claimed capturing weapons and explosives during a search operation in the Nawa district a day earlier.
Anti-terrorism police official Capt. Qand Agha Kandahari told Pajhwok Afghan News the search operation was carried out in Basolan area.
He said two Kalashnikovs, one pistol with 2000 bullets, explosives, four sets of police uniform and boots were captured during a raid on a house in the area. But no one could be arrested in connection with the seizure.
