14 dead as police, rebels clash in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok):  Six policemen and eight insurgents were killed during a battle in western Herat province, an official said on Tuesday.

The clash broke out after a group of insurgents attacked a police convoy in the Tagab Yari locality of Chast district, police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The official said two police pick up vehicles were also damaged in the attack. The Taliban have not yet spoken about the incident.
