KABUL that ends on March 21, the Ministry of Interior said on Wednesday.
The detainees include foreign citizens, women, government employees and security officials, Deputy Interior Minister for Counternarcotics Baz Mohammad Ahmadi told a press conference here.
He said the recent presidential and provincial council elections had been a challenge to the counternarcotics effort.
Ahmadi said despite fewer achievements this year, they had been able to destroy major drug producing sites, arrest high-profile smugglers and seize a huge amount of drugs.
He said counter-narcotics police had arrested 1,400 smugglers in more than 1,200 operations. The detainees included 20 government and as many security officials, 19 women and two foreigners.
The deputy minister drugs and chemicals weighing 105 tonnes along with laboratories were destroyed this year, when 20 counter-narcotics officers lost their lives and 25 others injured. Ahmadi warned that high-ranking officials were involved in drug smuggling and trade.
