GHAZNI CITY/MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Eleven militants were killed in the Giro district of southern Ghazni province in an airstrike by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), officials said Friday.

Abdullah Khairkhwa, the district administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News foreign forces conducted raid in Salimi locality. The slain insurgents were plotting to storm security posts in the area.

Eleven rebels, including seven foreigners, perished and seven others were wounded in the airstrike, he informed.

Separately, four militants were killed in an operation by Afghan security forces in Watapur area on the outskirts of Mehtarlam, the capital of eastern Laghman province, a statement from the governor office said.

The militants had taken position in an inaccessible area to mount an attack on security forces and their check post when they were spotted. A huge quantity of weapons was seized by security officials.

Separately, militants attacked a shipment container on Kabul-Jalalabad highway in the vicinity of Kunar, leaving the driver dead, another wounded and the vehicle completely torched. The injured had been rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Sayedkhel, Kunar police chief, said that a police vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Manogi district, leaving one policeman dead and two others injured. The explosion left the vehicle damaged, he added.

But Zabihullah Mujahed while taking credit for the attack said that four policemen had been killed in the attack.

Similarly, Pakistani military on Friday again fired 55 missiles into Kunar’s Dangam, Shigal, Marawra and Sarkano districts. The latest attack left one person wounded.
