17-year-old Afghan undergoes heart surgery in India

KABUL (Pajhwok): A 17-year-old Afghan has had an open-heart surgery at Aster Medcity in the Kerala state of India, a report said on Friday.

Before being taken 5to India, Sadeq underwent a medical examination when his mother saw bluish discoloration of lips and breathlessness.

For complete medical treatment, the boy was required to have a total repair cardiac surgery, a facility not available in Kabul.

The Indian Express said Sadeq had been operated upon under  ‘A Healing Touch’ campaign by Dr Moopen’s Foundation.

According to the report, the foundation has promised 25 free pediatric cardiac surgeries for impoverished Afghan children.

Azad Moopen, the foundation’s founder, was quoted as saying: “We believe that healthcare and compassion have no boundaries, and we will continue to reach out to the needy people across geographies and socio-economic statuses for creating a healthy world.”
