JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eighteen militants have been killed and six others wounded during separate incidents in eastern Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, officials said on Tuesday.

Nangarhar governor’s spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News 12 insurgents were killed in an airstrike in the Batikot district on Tuesday.

The airstrike hit a pick up vehicle carrying the rebels at around 10am. A notorious Taliban commander was believed killed in the latest airstrike, he said.

Separately, police detained an individual carrying 200 kilograms of heroin in his car in the Pacheragam district.

301st zone border police commander Mohammad Ayub Hassankhel said the car was intercepted during a search.

Elsewhere, six rebels were killed and seven others wounded during an overnight attack on Afghan Local Police (ALP) posts in Nurgul district of Kunar province.

Police chief Abdul Habib Syedkhel said security forces reinforcements reached the area soon after the attack to assist the ALP personnel backed by local uprising tribesmen.

The tribesmen and security forces suffered no casualties during the clash.

The Taliban are yet to speak about the incident.
