On 1st foreign trip, president off to China
KABUL (Pajhwok): At the head of a high-level delegation, President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Tuesday flew to China -- a regional powerhouse -- on his first formal foreign trip as Afghanistan's head of state, his office said.
During his four-day visit, the president would meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the country’s prime minister and parliament speaker. Improved economic and business links between Kabul and Beijing figure atop his agenda.
A number of agreements on more robust bilateral cooperation are expected to be also signed during Ahmadzai’s visit, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
He will address a joint conference of Afghan and Chinese investors and visit important facilities of that country and speak to Tsinghua University students in the capital Beijing.
National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, acting Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Usmani, Economic Advisor Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s Advisor Mohammad Mohaqiq and a number of other officials are accompanying Ahmadzai.
