HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Two burqa-clad militants allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack have been detained in western Herat province, the acting governor said on Wednesday.
Asiluddin Jami said the pair was detained during a commando operation in Kort village of the Guzara district.
The detainees possessing explosives and wearing burqa were planning to target government offices in Herat, the governor said, but did not identify the two, pending an investigation.
In northern Sar-i-Pul province, security forces killed 13 rebels and wounded seven others during an ongoing operation, the governor’s spokesman said.
Up to 16 villages were cleared of insurgents as a result of the joint operation of Afghan forces, which remained unhurt, Abdul Jabar Haqbin said.
