JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday claimed arresting an individual and recovering 15 kilograms of heroin from his possession.
As many as 2,280 Kalashnikovs, 250 pistols and a large number of bullets were also seized during search of a vehicle in the Behsud district, Police Chief Brig. Gen. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad told reporters.
He said security officials had seized 5,155 kilogram of drugs and arrested 216 smugglers in the ongoing year. The seized drugs included 2,070 kilogram opium, 201 kilogram heroine and 2884 kilograms of hashish, he added.
Ghulamullah, a resident of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, said police should take strict measures to prevent smuggling of illicit substance. He added the business of drugs helped financing terrorists.
Elsewhere, police in the Dehsabz district of capital Kabul seized 3,000 kilogram of opium and arrested an individual, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) official said.
Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, the anti-narcotics department head, told reporters that Abdul Hakim, the detained smuggler wanted to smuggle the contraband onward.
