KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A bomb blast rocked the capital of southeastern Khost province on Friday afternoon, killing at least two people and injuring six others, including police and civilians, officials said.
The explosives were planted on a bicycle that went off at around 1:30pm in Khost City, a police official said on condition of anonymity.
The governor’s spokesman said it was a remotely-controlled blast targeting a police vehicle on the Dawa Khano Road.
He confirmed one policeman had been killed and four policemen and three civilians injured in the explosion. The injured were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Khost Public Health Director Dr. Gul Ahmad Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News eight people injured in the blast had been taken to a private hospital in the city.
He said one policeman and one civilian had succumbed to their wounds and the condition of one injured policeman was critical.
A security official said the blast targeted police standing in front of a restaurant, where doctors were holding a gathering.
The guests at the restaurant stayed unhurt in the blast and the civilians injured were mobile credit card vendors.
Giving an eyewitness account, resident Nisarullah, said it was a powerful blast that shattered glasses of several shops besides causing casualties.
“After the blast, a number of police and civilians were lying on the road. People rushed to take them to hospital,” he said.
No group has so far come forward to claim the blast.
