MAIDAN SHAHR/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two Taliban commanders and a police officer were killed on Saturday during two separate incidents in eastern Nangarhar and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said.

The two rebel leaders, Mullah Nasrat and Mullah Mansoor, were killed during an operation that lasted six hours in the Ghanikhel district of Nangarhar, the town’s administrative head said.

Hazrat Khan Khaksar told Pajhwok Afghan News another two suspects had been detained during the operation carried out in the 27th Weyala area.

Security forces, who escaped unhurt, had taken into custody the dead bodies of the two commanders.

In Maidan Wardak, a police officer was killed and another was injured on Saturday afternoon when a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle, the governor’s spokesman said.

Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place in the Nerkh district’s Polad Khan area.

He identified the slain police officer as the district’s crime branch chief, saying the injured officer was in stable condition.
