HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): At least 24 people were killed in a traffic accident on Islam Qala highway in western Herat province on Sunday, an official said.
Rafiq Sherzai, director city hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News 24 bodies, including five women, four children, with another four wounded had been brought to the hospital.
Sherzai said the injured in critical conditions. But police spokesman, Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said 19 people were killed and seven others wounded in the mishap.
The mini passenger bus was on its way to Herat City when it collided head-on with a truck in the Maslah locality on the highway, he added.
Ahmadi blamed the driver for reckless driving. Police detained driver of the truck.
