LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Officials said that Afghan security forces had killed 27 insurgents in southern Helmand in a fierce clash while two Taliban militants had been detained in northern Takhar provinces.
Lt. Col. Muhammad Rasool Zazai, the Afghan National Army (ANA) 205 Maiwand Corps commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News that well-armed militants stormed the ANA check posts in Nawzad district last night.
The Afghan security forces, he said repulsed insurgents onslaught, leaving 26 insurgents dead after heavy exchange of fire. He said a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were also seized from the militants whose corpses were there in the area.
Abdul Rahman, a resident of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, said that heavy gun fight took place last night but he had no details about casualties.
Col. Farid Ahmad Ubaid, police spokesman, said one militant died and another suffered injuries when their own bomb they were planting went-off prematurely.
Separately, officials said that two armed insurgents had been arrested who were allegedly involved in planting bombs on roadsides in northern Takhar province.
