KABUL (Pajhwok): Some lawmakers on Tuesday said credibility of the tape of 2nd Vice-President Karim Khalili, released by presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah’s team, was suspect.

On the tape released last week, Khalili assures his interlocutor that Dr. Ashraf Ahmad Ghani Ahmadzai would win the presidential ballot. He was referring to discussions with President Hamid Karzai and some international leaders.

But Wolesi Jirga member Asadullah Sadati told reporters in Kabul the tape was fake and its release was an illegal and immoral act.  He asked Abdullah’s camp to apologise for defaming the vice-president.

Sadati was flanked by a number of legislators including Abdul Jabbar Qahraman, Mohammad Ali Alizada, Aziz Jalees, Chaman Shah Itimadi, Ruqia Nail, Abdul Qader Qalatwal, Qurban Kohistani, Shah Gul Rezaee, Siddiqa Mubarez and Hassan Fahimi.

Sadati said Khalili’s politics and actions, which had long been known to all Afghans, had never been against the national interest.

“We expect Dr. Abdullah to behave like a responsible presidential hopeful and avoid forgery and fraud,” the lawmaker remarked, asking the Reform and Unanimity team for an apology.

“Abdullah’s unwise friends have been using all tricks in the book to grab power and thereby numbing the ex-foreign minister,” the Wolesi Jirga member said, urging judicial organs to probe the issue.

For his part, Qahraman accused Abdullah’s supporters of raising the slogan of national unity and acting contrarily. “The election process has been delayed inordinately…The Reform and Unanimity team is insulting key figures. People are disenchanted.”
