KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Gunmen in police uniforms snatched three off-duty Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers from two buses in the Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, the district chief said.
Hayatullah Amiri told Pajhwok Afghan News the two passenger buses were on their way from northern Takhar province to Kunduz when gunmen stopped them in the Charsada area for two hours.
The gunmen searched all passengers and identified the three ANA service members from their service ID cards and took them away, he added.
Amiri said he had informed security officials in Kunduz City about the abduction.
Kunduz police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini said they had launched an investigation and were trying to secure the release of the abducted officers.
The Takhar-Kunduz road has been insecure. Last year, four ANA officials were abducted and then killed by unknown gunmen.
