FARAH/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three policemen were killed and two policemen and a journalist were wounded in a roadside bombing in western Farah province on Thursday, an official said.

The blast took place on the Farah-Farahrod highway in the Shamalgah area near the provincial capital, Farah City, at about 3pm, the provincial police chief said.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Raziq Yaqubi told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast destroyed the police pick up vehicle, killing three policemen and injuring two others.

Farah Radio and Television Afghanistaninfo-icon (RTA) reporter Nazir Ahmad Haideri, who was injured in the blast, had been to a healthinfo-icon facility at the police headquarters in Farah City.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that three police guards of the provincial police chief had been killed in the incident that left him and two other policemen injured.

Haideri said security officials wanted to inspect security posts in the Bala Balok district and he joined them to file a report. But they came under attack while returning from the area, said Haideri, who called his condition as out of danger. He said his reporting equipment seemed to be unaffected.

According to another report, four insurgents, including a commander, were killed during a clash with police in northern Faryab province on Thursday.

Faryab police spokesman Syed Massoud Yaqubi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clash took place in the Sabzposh district’s Gulzar area in the afternoon. The dead insurgents included a commander identified as Qari Hamidullah.

Another three Talibaninfo-icon militants were killed during a separate clash with security forces in the Koparik area of Qaisar district, according to the police spokesman.

A Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi in an email to Pajhwok Afghan News said the fighters destroyed two government’s tanks in the Timar Koparik area.

The police spokesman said the tanks were hit in a rocket attack, but had slightly damaged.
