CHARIKAR/HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): At least three insurgents were killed and four others captured alive during a commando forces operation in the capital of central Parwan province, police said on Monday.

Parwan police chief Muhammad Zaman Mamozai said the operation was conducted in Tutum Dara area of Charikar on a house, where the insurgents had gathered. But he did not go into further details.

The police chief said a man killed his wife and wounded his four in-laws before making his escape good. He said police were investigating the incident.

Elsewhere, a man killed his spouse in western Herat province on Monday, a day after the International Women’s Day was observed, an official said.

Herat police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the 25-year-old “Atifa” was stabbed to death by her husband in Qara bagh village of Gulran district. The reason behind the murder remained unclear and the killer was at large, he said.

The women’s day was celebrated in Kabul and several provinces on Sunday, with speakers calling for an end to violence against women and punishment for the perpetrators.
