TALOQAN (Pajhwok): At least five people were killed and 36 others wounded in two separate road accidents in northeastern Takhar province on Tuesday, officials said.

Three passengers died and 35 others were wounded when Kabul-based a bus veered off the road in the Azoom Kotal area of Rustaq district at 9am, the district chief Abdul Manaf Faizi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said women and children were among the wounded, five of them in critical condition. The injured were evacuated to district and provincial civil hospitals.

The governor’s spokesman Sunnatullah Timuri confirmed the Rustaq mishap and casualties. He said two people including the driver were killed and a third wounded in a separate accident.

He added the incident occurred in Taloqan, the provincial capital, where a car skidded off the road. He linked the accidents to careless driving.
