KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Five policemen were killed in a suicide bomb attack in southern Kandahar province, where the militants hanged a civilian, on Wednesday, an official said.

The car bomber attacked a Public Order Police convoy in the Lashkargah Square of Maiwand district on Tuesday afternoon, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News.

At least five policemen were killed and six others wounded in the bombing, he said on condition of anonymity. The police convoy was on its way to the Sangin district of neighbouring Helmand province.

As usual, the Taliban claimed the attack. The group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said a large number of security personnel had been killed and three of their vehicles destroyed.
