KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Six more Sher Khan Port employees were released three weeks after they were abducted by insurgents in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Saturday.
Sixteen employees of the port were abducted last month while returning home from office. Last week, seven of them were freed with the help of tribal elders.
Syed Sarwar Hussaini, governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News currently only three workers were being held by the insurgents and efforts were underway to secure their safe release.
Hussaini said the employees had been released without any conditions, but one of the port workers, who asked for anonymity, revealed they were released after payment of ransom.
The employee added in return for freeing each staffer Taliban had received up to 300,000 afghanis and one of their colleagues had escaped at night.
