KABUL’s Sindh province, media reported.

A private TV channel, monitored in Kabul, said a number of victims were trapped under debris after the roof of the imambargah caved in due to the powerful explosion.

DawnNews reported the bomb ripped through the mosque in the Lakhi Dar area of Shikarpur district immediately after Friday prayers. The Shikarpur Civil Hospital issued a list of the victims.

Many of the casualties were evacuated to hospital in Sukkur and Larkana districts of Sindh Deputy Commissioner Hadi Bux Zardari confirmed the death toll, saying scores had been injured.

A number of children were among the casualties, he said, adding several wounded people were in critical condition. The official put the death toll at 61.

A senior doctor, Shaukat Memon, confirmed 55 injured had been brought to the Shikarpur Civil Hospital. Doctors and medics were called in and an emrgency imposed at the hospital.

District police chief Rakhio Mirani said a man, who had taken the explosive device into the mosque, detonated it after Juma prayers. Scores of worshipers were present at the time of the blast.
