SHIBERGHAN/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least eight militants have been killed and six people, including a civilian, wounded during separate incidents in northern Jawzjan and northeastern Badakhshan provinces, officials said on Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News five insurgents were killed during a clash with Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the Jarqadaq area of Qush Tepa district.

Four militants, an ALP member and a civilian were wounded in the morning clash, he said.

Dad Mohammad, a resident of Jarqadaq village, said insurgents also killed 30 livestock during the fight. He said water reservoirs constructed by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation Development (MRRD) were also damaged and the solar panels energy that people used for water supply, had also been destroyed.

Taliban did not comment on the incident but the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing 22 Afghan security forces men in two roadside bombs in Faizabad district of Jawzjan.

Elsewhere, three militants were killed in Argo district of Badakhshan during an operation.

Lt. Gen. Baba Jan, provincial police chief, confirmed the incident and said that a number of rebels had fled toward mountains.

He added 21 villages were cleared of militants during the operation. Mohammad Zaman, a resident of Arghan area of the district, said: “Taliban forcefully take food from people three times a day. They also force and torture people to pay them Zakat and tax.”

He appreciated anti-insurgents operation which he said had left positive impact on the area. He demanded the establishment of more security posts to maintain security and order.
