SAR-I-PUL/CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): At least nine insurgents were killed and more than a dozen wounded during clashes in different parts of the country, officials said on Wednesday.

Seven militants were killed and 10 others wounded during gunbattle in the Tagab district of central Kapisa province, Ibadullah Talwar, the deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The firefight erupted in Tatarkhel locality, he said, adding five policemen were also wounded. However, civilians suffered no causalities during the exchange of fire.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the fighters has suffered casualties. As usual, he claimed killing and injuring several policemen in the morning battle.

Elsewhere, two fighters were killed, six others wounded and two captured after a clash with security forces in the Kohistanat district of central Sar-i-Pul province.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Noor Habib Gulbahari said security forces were engaged in a clearing operation in the area when they came under attack.

He said 400 militants had joined the government-initiated peace process in the province. A day earlier, 50 militants surrendered, he recalled.
