AIBAK (Pajhwok): A 32-year-old motorcycle mechanic from northern Samangan province has assembled an airplane that is all poised to take to the skies, an official said on Saturday.

Governor Khairullah Anosh praised the innovative work of Zabihullah, who has been working as motorcycle mechanic for the past 20 years. Dropping out of school in sixth grade, he has also worked in the United Arab Emirates.

Anosh said the youth of Afghanistan were bestowed with extraordinary talent; it was the responsibility of the government to exploit the talent and provide the youngsters with opportunities.

Called Afghan Qoyash Jet, the aircraft — the 5.5 meters long and 80 centimetres wide — would take off soon, the mechanic hoped, putting the plane’s cost at $4,000.
