Afghanistan level ODI series with massive win
The visitors literally turned the tables on Zimbabwe by notching up two consecutive triumphs after losing the first two encounters, the Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman said.
Asked to bat first, Afghanistan pile up 259 in 49.1 overs, Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News. Shafiqullah smashed a superb fifty to help his side build momentum after the early loss of the opening pair.
Samiullah Shinwari remained the second highest scorer with 40 runs. Nasir Jamal chipped in with 39, Gulbadin Naib 31 runs, skipper Mohammad Nabi 37 and Dawlat Zadran 15 runs.
Off-spinner Sharafuddin Ashraf captured three wickets, a haul that left Zimbabwe crashing to 159. Seam bowler Dawlat Zadran claimed two for 39, as the national side clinched its biggest ever triumph in an ODI.
Zimbabwe were off to a shaky start losing six top batsmen for 26 runs. Debutant wicketkeeper Richmond Mutumbami hit 64 from 75 balls, but his glorious knock could not save the hosts, who were bundled out for 159 in 38 overs.
Both countries used the series to prepare for the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next February and March.
