KABUL scored their second consecutive victory in their Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-16 Elite Cup match in Qatar on Friday, an official said.

In their first encounter, Afghanistan had thumped Iran by 10 wickets to taking a triumphant start to their title defence at Mesaieed on Day 2 of the event — thanks to a fiery spell by skipper Yousaf Khan Zazai.

Kuwait opted to bat first after winning the toss, a decision that apparently backfired, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Abdul Wase, literally bowling his heart out, captured seven wickets to skittle the opposition out for 68 in the 2tth over, a target that the Afghans achieved for the loss of only two wickets in the 11th over.

The weeklong event began on October 22 in Doha. Organised by the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), the 40-overs-a-side contest features under-16 teams from Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Iran, Kuwait and Qatar.

The matches are being played at the Mesaied Industrial City Ground and the West End Park Stadium. Two games are played daily, the first one beginning at 9 am and the second at 3pm.
