JALALABAD/MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Four security personnel and seven insurgents have been killed and several others wounded during separate clashes in eastern Nangarhar and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said on Saturday.
A group of armed militants attacked an Afghan Local Police (ALP) post in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar early in the morning, killing two ALP men and injuring a third, the governor’s spokesman said.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News four attackers were killed and six others wounded after the ALP personnel returned fire in the Wazir area.
The district chief, Nimatullah Noorzai, said civilians stayed unharmed during the clash that resulted into heavy casualties among the attackers. He said the attackers were pushed back as a result of timely dispatch of reinforcements.
A doctor on duty at the Khogyani civil hospital, Noor Agha, told Pajhwok Afghan News a civilian slightly injured in the incident was treated and discharged.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the ALP personnel suffered heavy casualties in the attack that left only four fighters injured.
The attack comes days after an ALP post commander and a member were killed in a suicide attack in the same area.
In Wardak, two ALP members were killed and a third wounded during a clash with insurgents in the Chak district last night, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In the same district’s Khwaja Omari area, Khogyani said three Waziristani militants were killed during a security operation. Some weapons and explosives were also confiscated during the offensive, he said.
