KABUL in the quest for international cricket glory.

Anderson in a statement said on Wednesday that for Australia, co-hosting (with New Zealand) the Cricket World Cup is a national sporting honour and an opportunity to celebrate its relationship with Afghanistan.

Australia and Afghanistan are closely linked. For over a decade Australia has been proud to support the Afghan people to build a peaceful and prosperous nation, Anderson added.

Afghanistan’s qualifying for the ICC World Cup is not only a reflection on the quality of the team and the Afghan people, but also a turning point for the country.

“While Australia remains an active contributor to international efforts to support Afghanistan including through our development program and security assistance, walking side by side with Australia in Perth on the 4th of March will signify Afghanistan’s emergence as both a rival and equal on the cricket field,” he remarked.

Through sport, “Australia and Afghanistan share common bonds which open doors with our neighbours and strengthen our links around the world. Sport allows us to celebrate and demonstrate what we stand for as a nation as well as the opportunity to surpass social, cultural and language barriers that may divide us,” he concluded.
