KABUL (Pajhwok): The spy service on Monday claiming foiling a plot to assassinate the National Directorate of Security chief for eastern Laghman province.

A statement from the NDS headquarters in Kabul said three people, including a would-be suicide bomber, had been arrested during a special operation.

The statement did not provide the exact date and location, but identified the alleged bomber as Abdul Basir, a son of Mohammad Nasir, resident of Sheikhan village.

Basir was preparing to launch a suicide attack on the Laghman NDS chief, but he was arrested along with his facilitator and a third person who harboured him.

Suicide vests were recovered from the detainees, the statement said, claiming the would-be bomber had confessed to his intended plan.

It quoted Basir as telling his interrogators he had been directed by a Pakistani rebel leader, Maulvi judge, to kill the Laghman NDS head.

He had also hand in carrying out a roadside bombing that killed Afghan Local Police commander Syeda Jan and the blast that ripped through his funeral prayers, the statement claimed.
