Avoid ads featuring women, TV channels urged

Avoid ads featuring women, TV channels urged

Mar 07, 2015 - 19:30

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A senior Ministry of Information and Culture official on Saturday urged TV channels not to air adverts featuring female models, calling it against womeninfo-icon’s rights.

Semin Hasanzada, deputy information and culture minister, was speaking at a gathering organized by the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) on the eve of International Women’s Day in Kabul.

She said Islam had given women special rights centuries ago. “But unfortunately our societies are violating these rights today.”

Hasanzada said drastic changes came to the lives of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s women during the past 13 years, under former president Hamid Karzai, and their contribution to the media was significant.

“Our media use women for aesthetic purposes and physical beauty instead of focusing on their intellectual abilities to transform the societyinfo-icon,” she remarked.
