Baghlan electricity revenue surges manifold

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Electricity director for northern Baghlan province has said that the revenue generated from the electricity this year has been increased by 80 million afghanis.

During the last ten months, the income has reached to 320 million afghanis while the amount last year in the same time period was 250 million afs.

Electricity Director Eng. Ghulam Hussain Haidar told Pajhwok Afghan News the reason behind hike in revenue was payments of bills by the Ghori Cement Factory in Baghlan.

He said power supply to the factory had to be cut because of 140 million unpaid bills by the factory. The electricity supply to the factory had been restored after payment of 20 million outstanding bills.

The cement factory is defaulted since last 10 years but its officials had assured to pay their debts in the near future, Haidar said, adding the power would be cut again if it failed to clear bills.

Extending the electricity to 900 residential buildings and shops had helped increase in the revenue, he said, adding that currently six megawatt of electricity was provided from the second Ghori dam while 12 megawatt of that was imported from Tajikistan.

Sultan Aziz, a resident of Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, said that three months ago they had access to electricity only three hours in 24 hours but currently the facility is available 12 hours daily.
