KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): On the completion of construction work, a new school for nomads has been formally handed over to the education department, an official said on Tuesday.

Built in the Khost City, the provincial capital, the school building is situated close to the Sheikh Zayed University. The school is meant for children of the nomadic Kuchi tribe.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Director of Education Bakht Noor Bakhtiar said the school had 13 classrooms, including administrative offices, with capacity for 800 students.

The school had been built at a cost of 5 million afghanis with the financial assistance of the World Bank, he said, adding the facility took one year to be completed.

The province had a total of 18 schools for nomads, with 6,395 students enrolled, he added.
