KABUL (Pajhwok): Condemning the rape of a 12-year-old girl in the Nijrab district of central Kapisa province, social media users on Wednesday sought death penalty for the rapists.
Relatives of the victim have accused six Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel of gang rapping the girl around 11 days ago in Ghuchlan village.
Earlier, Abdul Qadir, the girl’s paternal uncle, demanded the government hang the rapists. He warned if the rapists were not executed, 5000 youth of the Paracha tribe were ready to launch an uprising against the government.
Ministry of Interior officials said three suspects, two of them ALP personnel, had been arrested and efforts were underway to nab the rest.
People using social media, especially Facebook, condemned the incident and called for the perpetrators to be handed down capital punishment.
Some blamed government’s inefficiency for increasing incidents of rapes.
One Facebook user, Asir Aslami, wrote on his wall: “God’s curse on this corrupt regime! If they can’t rule properly, they should leave. You (the authorities) should put yourself in her family’s shoes. What would you do if the same happens to your own girl?…”
Another user Sitara wrote: “If this is truly an Islamic government, then these (rapists) evils must be hanged so that others learn a lesson.”
Nasir Ahmad Sultani: “The only way to deliver justice is to hang them in front of the girl.”
Parwana Aria: “Should we now complain against mullahs, Taliban or our own police?…”
Laila Mohammadi: “Humanity has died. The animal-like persons did not even spare an innocent child. Violence has reached the peak. Where is humanity, where are human rights and where is the rule of law?”
Muhammad Hassan Khetab: “They brutally raped her amid tears, wails and cries. Her father is now a tortured soul. But who heard? where was their conscience…?”
