JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A suicide attacker detonated his explosives-laden car near a convoy of foreign troops in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, killing only himself, officials said.

The attack took place in the Famil area near Jalalabad, the provincial capital, at around 8am, destroying a vehicle of the troops.

Only the attacker was killed in the blast that caused no casualties among the NATO-led forces, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Giving an eyewitness account, Samiullah said the suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden car as he approached the American forces’ convoy.

“I saw an American military vehicle burning after the blast,” he said, but had no information about casualties.

ISAF media office in Kabul confirmed the attack but said there were no casualties among their personnel.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said two foreign military vehicles were destroyed, killing all onboard.
