KABUL (Pajhwok): Abdul Ahad Wahed has been appointed the new caretaker mayor for Kabul municipality following a presidential decree on Thursday.
Soon after his appointment, Wahed vowed to act against land grabbers in the capital.
In his inaugural speech, he acknowledged widespread corruption in some departments and directed his colleagues to fight the menace decisively.
“Until there is a proper mechanism for implementation of law in Kabul municipality we won’t be able to avoid land usurpation in the capital. There should at least be 100 to 200 police personnel with us,” he added.
Wahed promised to pay special attention to maintenance of Kabul roads and said majority of the roads to be reconstructed over the next three years.
He said more authority would be given to the officials at the municipality to boost their performance. Wahed’s predecessor, Muhammad Yunus Nawandesh, resigned his post on December 22.
