KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 45 people, including four civilians and as many policemen, have been killed in separate security incidents in eastern Nangarhar, southern Ghazni and central Parwan provinces, officials said on Wednesday.

Nangarhar police spokesman Maj. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that 25 militants were killed and many others wounded during an operation in Dur Baba district.

He said four policemen were also killed four others wounded during the operation. Most of the militants killed in the ongoing operation were Pakistanis, the spokesman said, without giving further details.

Elsewhere in the province, nine fighters were killed and three others wounded in an airstrike in Sherzad district. A Taliban commander and a shadow district chief for Sherzad were among the dead.

Taliban did not comment about Dur Baba and Sherzad incidents, but claimed inflicting heavy casualties on Afghan forces in Hesarak, Spin Ghar and Pachiragam districts of Nangarhar.

According to another report, three civilians and three guerrillas were killed in Ghazni province. The governor’s spokesman, Shafiq Nang, said deaths resulted from a clash in Ajristan district late on Tuesday.

He said that civilians were killed by militants who broke into houses od Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel’s relatives and opened fire on inmates.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the clash and said three ALP members and two Taliban were killed. But he denied civilian casualties and said those killed were ALP members.

On the other hand, a 22 years Sharia Law student was killed by an unidentified gunman in central Parwan province. Eyewitness Mohammad Nasir said Milad was killed with a pistol by a motorcyclist in the 7th police district.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai confirmed the incident and said efforts to arrest the murderer were underway.
