The extravaganza will be staged in Australia and New Zealand early next year and the Cricket World Cup trophy has embarked on its journey to countries that will participate in the mega event. Afghanistan is among the nations who have qualified for the World Cup.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News that ACB chief executive officer Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad arrived with the World Cup trophy from the UAE at the Kabul International Airport at about 1pm.

ACB officials, national players and cricket lovers warmly received the trophy, which was taken out of the airport.

ACB president Shahzada Massoud told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghanistan booked its berth in the World Cup following untiring efforts and continued struggle.

“Today we are welcoming the World Cup trophy with pride as we have successfully made it to the tournament,” he said.

Dr. Murad told reporters that making it to the World Cup and competing with international teams was the dream of every Afghan, the ACB and the national players.

“I am confident our national team after going through the planned preparations, will be able to prove their mettle in the World Cup,” he said.

The World Cup trophy was then taken to the Presidential Palace. The trophy is scheduled to be showcased at special function planned at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.
