Eid brings no joys to fallen ANA soldier’s family

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A woman, who lost her husband, an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier, during clashes in southern Helmand province, says she is passing through the hardest days of her life and special days like Eid has no importance for her.

Sakina, a resident of northern Kunduz province, said her husband was killed six months earlier during a clash with Taliban in Musa Qala district. She currently lives in a ruined structure on the Azadi Road in the third municipal district of Kunduz City, the provincial capital.

The mother of two sons and a daughter said they had no guardian after the demise of her husband, Abdul Ghafar. She said is compelled to protect and feed her three kids.

The bereaved woman adds her children have no new clothes to wear on Eid day and she is unable to buy them new dresses because Eid and others special events could not bring back Abdul Ghafar, the family’s head.

With tears rolling down her face, she told Pajhwok Afghan News “when I got to know my husband has been martyred, I lost senses.”

Sakina said she worked at her neighbors’ houses in return for some money to bear the expenses of her family, but the money she obtained was not enough to meet all their needs.

She hoped her son, Waisuddin, would grow up and would be able to take responsibility of the family.

Waisuddin said, “After the martyrdom of my father, life became tough for us as earning money and feeding ourselves has become difficult.”

Yet to reach his puberty, the son said he wanted to study and become an educated person. However, being the elder son of his parents, he has to work to fulfill his family’s economic needs.

Asma, an 11-year-old daughter of slain Abdul Ghafar, said she asked her mother to prepare new clothes for her on the occasion of Eid, but the mother rejected her request by saying she hardly managed to feed them so how could she buy new clothes.

 “I miss my father a lot and I cry when his memories touch my heart,” said Asma, who plans to join a religious school this year.

During the interview, the family had been crying a lot, making it difficult to continue.
