HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): An exhibition and an warehouse for agricultural produce were inaugurated in western Herat province on Saturday, officials said.
Director of Commerce Habibullah Hikmat told Pajhwok Afghan News the exhibition was part of a ministry project that was being implemented in Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif and Jalalabad.
He said the $22 million project was funded by the World Bank. “The aim is to expand the private sector and increase the quality of domestic products. If it succeeds, the exhibition will be expanded to other provinces as well.”
According to Hikmat, a variety of domestic products including food, beverages, saffron, cookies, handicrafts and plastic items would be put on display in 22 booths and shops.
Hamidullah Khadim, the industrial union head, welcomed the launch of the exhibition and said such events would help boost domestic products.
